Thanks for visiting my little blog! I am a real health conscious food lover always in pursuit of real, fresh, amazing food! My journey began way back around 2000 when I realized maybe it was the stuff I was mindlessly consuming making me feel sluggish and breaking my skin out. To be honest it didn’t taste good anyway and it wasn’t exciting. In fact, it was making me sick and I wanted to know why. It was time to venture far from what I had grown up on and experiment with food.
I already love to learn and create things, so food is just another media. I began reading constantly about food and experimenting with what I ate and how I felt, as far as energy levels and keeping my skin clear. Life should be an exciting journey filled with variety and challenges (including food). My eating habits I practice now took several years to conform to and experiment with before it became a habit. I don’t think anyone can instantly change overnight. There is always a process and knowledge that stems from that process. In particular, that’s why I don’t think diets work for most people. You have to understand what your putting in your mouth and what messages it’s sending to your brain which in turn undergoes various processes in the body. The result of your choices is one where you feel alive, clear-headed and energized OR one where you find yourself bloated, sick, guilt-ridden and lethargic.
The most interesting thing you will find if you choose to change your diet is your sense of taste. It will transform entirely and evolve to new levels. Familiar with the person that decides to change overnight and start eating healthy foods, only to give up the next day because the ‘healthy foods’ supposedly taste like cardboard and paper? That is what I’m talking about. You have to retrain your tastebuds, right now they are programmed to be addicted to high amounts of salt and refined sugars, that’s it. You will find after you start eating healthy when you go out for food whatever is on the plate will almost seem inedible. Commonly, entrees are saturated with salt, butter and sauces made with sugar keeping you from actually tasteing and enjoying the FOOD. Similarly, desserts will have far too much sugar created with nothing but butter – this is not dessert ?! Further, if you happen to stop somewhere on a rare fast food pickup, you will find that it will make you sick and the bag contents will not resemble anything edible anymore.
I really love ‘healthy food’, the taste, the textures and the way it makes you feel and perform day to day. That is how I eat to live. I really believe in moderation and creating balance within your life. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not perfect. (No one is!) I eat desserts, I love potato chips and dips, who doesn’t enjoy a birthday party or a night out drinking with friends? It’s sort of a part of our make-up and culture, you can’t escape it. And who would want to cut joy and things that are fun totally out of your life? No one! It just can’t be done daily or every single weekend. You have to listen to your body and make decisions that are the best for it.
